Delicious Apple Squares Fall Recipe
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2Tbsp. sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs, separated
Milk
1 cup corn flakes, crumbled
4 cups apples, peeled and sliced
1 1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. salt
Frosting
Combine flour, salt, sugar(2 Tbsp.)and shortening to make crust.
Beat egg yolks in a measuring cup, add milk to make 2/3 cup liquid
Roll out 1/2 of the dough to cover a cookie sheet bottom. Crumble
corn flakes over crust. Mix together apples, sugar(1 1/4 c.),
cinnamon and salt. Spread on top of corn flake crumbs. Roll out
top crust with remaining dough. Place on top of apple mixture,
brush with the egg whites. Bake at 400' for 30 minutes. Frost when
cool.
Frosting:
2 cups powdered sugar
2 Tbsp. margarine
1 tsp. vanilla
Water
Combine ingredients, add 1 tsp. water at a time to the desired consistency.
